Leadership Commitment to Eliminating Preventable Harm- CME Paid Option
As part of the FY2025 final rule, CMS is requiring hospitals participating in the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR)program to report on the Patient Safety Structural Measure (PSSM). Structural measures provide a way for hospitals to address a topic for which no outcome measure exists. The PSSM is an attestation-based measure that assesses whether hospitals have a structure and culture that prioritizes safety as demonstrated by five domains. Hospitals will attest to whether they engage in specific evidence-based best practices in each domain. CMS expects that by attesting to these measures, hospitals will develop evidence-based programs and processes to support improvements in high impact areas. Join us for this webinar series as we take a deeper dive into implementation and evaluation of these five domains. We will also include insights for hospitals that are not required to report on the PSSM but are proactively building a safety culture and program.

Kathy Collins serves as a Clinical Improvement Consultant (CIC) with an expertise in informatics at Compass Healthcare Collaborative. Collins works with the Compass Data Team and the Compass Hospital Quality Improvement Network CICs to assure hospitals are submitting accurate and timely data. She also creates reports and dashboards with analysis to assist the hospitals and CICs in creating data-driven decisions and enhance their improvement efforts. Her clinical background includes ambulatory care, utilization review and case management, long-term care as both a staff nurse and director of nursing, obstetrics and medical surgical units as well as infection prevention. She has led quality for over twenty-five years in both critical access and prospective payment system hospitals. Collins holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality/CPHQ and Patient Safety/CPPS.
